Cold email is still the highest-ROI outreach channel in 2025 — if you do it right. After sending over 50,000 cold emails and building my own cold email platform (VisibleMail), here’s what actually works.
1. Use a Custom Domain, Not Gmail.com
Sending from a @gmail.com or @yahoo.com address kills your credibility immediately. Set up a custom domain (e.g. [email protected]) and warm it up for 2–4 weeks before sending campaigns.
2. Personalize the First Line
The first line of your email must be personal and specific. Not ‘I hope this finds you well’ — but something like ‘Saw your post about X on LinkedIn last week — great point about Y.’
3. Keep It Under 100 Words
Shorter emails get more replies. Aim for 3-4 sentences: hook, value prop, CTA. No long company descriptions in the first email.
4. Send From Multiple Accounts With Different IPs
To scale cold email safely, use multiple sending accounts each with a dedicated IP via SOCKS5 proxy. This is the setup I built into VisibleMail — each account sends from its own IP to avoid domain-wide blacklisting.
5. Follow Up 3–4 Times
Most replies come on follow-up #2 or #3. Set up automated sequences with 3-5 day gaps. Use my breakup email template on the last follow-up — it consistently gets the highest response rates.
